This three-acre garden near historic Lincoln has been developed over the last 30 years by passionate plantswoman Pam Tatam. For most of that time, Pam was also running her specialist plant nursery, offering a huge range of both familiar and rarer perennials, shrubs and mainly old fashioned roses.

Five years ago, Pam closed the nursery to devote herself full-time to the garden. The nursery site, on two sides of the large, partly seventeenth century limestone farmhouse and a long stretch beyond, was taken into the garden.

The result is a thoroughly eclectic garden, as Pam’s changing ideas and love of new gardening projects has led to a wide range of both formal and informal areas. There is something different around every corner, yet the garden still blends together to make a coherent whole.

The features of the garden include, amongst other things, an intimate walled garden, a long double herbaceous border planted for late summer colour, a rose garden and rose tunnel, a giant chess set, a circular sunken garden with a summer house, paths winding through more herbaceous borders, a pond, a shady tree and shrub area, an orchard (with more perennials and shrubs), a newly constructed raised bed potager, a large flowery meadow, a small courtyard garden and a large formal lawn.

It is a short walk from the garden to the medieval moat which surrounds Pam’s latest project – an acre of wild, semi-woodland garden currently under development.
