A 15-acre listed garden and arboretum with lakes, streams and cascades, created by the Rhyd y Meirch stream as it flows through the garden. Unusual trees including several national champions, shrubs and flowers have been planted since 1790. It is likely that the landscaping trends of Capability Brown influenced the owners in the late 18th Century, as seen by plantings of stately London plane trees and beech which to this day, cast their shadows on the lawns and parkland.
The deep herbaceous borders in the unusual circular walled garden, with a dovecote topped by a Pike, have been designed to complement the autumnal hues of gold, red and orange enhancing the berries, barks and falling leaves.
This year Rare Plant Fairs celebrate their 25th season. All our events are held in beautiful and prestigious gardens, each with its own unique character, from those with histories stretching back centuries to more modern gardens created in recent years. A day out at one of our fairs a really enjoyable and inspiring experience for everyone, whether a novice or experienced gardener.
The nurseries that attend our Fairs are carefully selected to ensure that they are genuine growers who produce most or all of the plants that they sell themselves. We try offer the widest possible range of plants to our visitors, including perennials, shrubs and trees, alpines, bulbs and exotic plants, and all of our nursery owners are experts in the plants that they grow. They are all always happy to offer all the advice that you need to select and grow the right plants for your garden.
The fair will be open from 11am to 4pm, and adult entry, which includes entry to both the fair and garden costs just £5. Refreshments are available, in aid of St. Bartholomews’ Church, Llanover. Well-controlled dogs on short leads are allowed in the Gardens and Fair.
